Ghost of Yotei Characters

The Ghost of Yotei characters fall into three groups: Atsu herself, the six outlaws she is hunting, and the allies who gather around her in Ezo, a group the story calls the Wolf Pack. This page describes each of them. Character descriptions near the top are spoiler-free; anything that reveals a plot twist is marked. For the plot itself, see our Ghost of Yotei story guide.

Atsu is the protagonist and the only playable character in the main story. In 1587 the Yotei Six attacked her family home near Mount Yotei, killed her family and left her for dead, pinned to a burning ginkgo tree with her father's katana. She survived, left Ezo and spent sixteen years as a wandering mercenary before coming home to take revenge. After she survives a wound that should have killed her, people start calling her the onryo, a vengeful spirit. PlayStation describes her journey as a story of healing and redemption that runs deeper than vengeance.

Atsu was a child when her family was killed. Several guides give her age as 28 during the game, based on PlayStation's official cosplay guide saying she was 12 on the night of the attack; the game itself does not state her age directly.

She fights with a much wider arsenal than Jin Sakai did in Ghost of Tsushima. Her melee weapons are the katana, dual katana, odachi, yari and kusarigama; she also uses bows, a tanegashima matchlock rifle, and quickfire tools such as kunai and smoke bombs. She can call on a wolf companion in battle, and she carries a shamisen, which is part of her official look.

Atsu is voiced by Erika Ishii in English and Fairouz Ai in Japanese. Ishii's performance was nominated for Best Performance at The Game Awards 2025, and Atsu won Outstanding Achievement in Character at the D.I.C.E. Awards.

The Yotei Six are the main villains. The descriptions below are PlayStation's own; names and voice actors come from the game's credits as listed on Wikipedia.

Along the way Atsu builds a small circle of allies. These are the most important ones.

Many Ghost of Yotei characters belong to one of the groups fighting over Ezo. Knowing them makes it easier to follow who is working with whom.

Jubei is Atsu's brother. He also survived the massacre in 1587, was taken in by the Matsumae clan and became a samurai officer known as Lord Kitamori. The siblings reunite while hunting the Oni in Ishikari Plain.

Oyuki was the original Kitsune, Saito's shinobi. She turned against Saito after the night of the burning tree, and she is the one who let Atsu escape that night. Saito had her branded and replaced by Dojun, the Kitsune Atsu hunts.

Atsu's parents were both killed on the Night of the Burning Tree; Saito himself hanged her mother. Oyuki's confession about that night is one of the story's turning points.

In the main story you only play as Atsu. The Most Wanted roguelike mode, added in the Complete Edition on October 1, 2026, has four playable characters, each with their own weapons and abilities.

The Echoes of Sekigahara expansion introduces Nagato, a figure from Atsu's past who arrives in Ezo and is hunted by the Vipers, the Snake's former followers, now without a leader. The expansion also returns to Atsu's years as a mercenary at the Battle of Sekigahara. Sony has not yet named the rest of the expansion's cast.

Not in the main story. Ghost of Yotei is set 329 years after Ghost of Tsushima, so Jin is long gone by Atsu's time. He does appear as a playable character in the Most Wanted mode from October 1, 2026, with his original stances, and the Complete Edition pre-order bonus is the Sakai Armor, modelled on his family's armor.
