Ghost of Yotei DLC Guide

The first paid Ghost of Yotei DLC arrives on October 1, 2026, one year after the game launched on PS5. It has two parts that are sold together: Echoes of Sekigahara, a new story expansion, and Most Wanted, a new single-player roguelike combat mode. You can get both by buying the new Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition, or by upgrading your existing copy.

Sony announced the DLC in August 2026 and showed Most Wanted in more detail at the State of Play on September 3, 2026, where it confirmed that Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima is a playable character. On the same day, every player also gets a free update with new photo and accessibility options, so there is something new even if you do not buy the expansion.

The release date is Thursday, October 1, 2026. In some Asia-Pacific territories it unlocks on October 2 because of time zones. It is a PlayStation 5 release only, as the game has no PC version (see our Ghost of Yotei PC status page).

There are two ways to buy it, depending on whether you already own the game. If you already own Ghost of Yotei, the Complete Edition Upgrade costs $14.99 and adds both Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted to your copy. If you are new to the game, the Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition costs $69.99, the same as the original Standard Edition, and includes the base game, Legends co-op, the Digital Deluxe content and both expansions.

Echoes of Sekigahara is the story half of the expansion. It is split between two periods of Atsu's life: her past as a mercenary on the mainland during the Battle of Sekigahara, and the present day in Ezo. The Battle of Sekigahara in 1600 is one of the most famous battles in Japanese history, so this is the first time the series shows Atsu's life before the events of the main game.

In the present-day story, Nagato, a figure from Atsu's past, has arrived in Ezo. He is wanted by the Vipers, the outlaws who were loyal to the Snake and were left without a leader after his death. When the Vipers take a close ally from Atsu, she reluctantly teams up with Nagato to get them back.

The expansion adds a new region, the Ashoro Foothills, an area of Ezo that was once full of wildlife and has now been left devastated. Sony has confirmed new enemy types, new heavy weapons, new Mythic Tales and abilities, and new armor sets and cosmetics.

Most Wanted is the second half of the expansion. It is a single-player combat survival mode built around bounties. You pick a bounty from the bounty board, and each one targets a different member of the Yotei Six. A run is a series of waves of enemies and minibosses; after each wave you choose a new perk, such as weapon mastery, gear loadouts, summons, parry upgrades or survivability. Bounties can be replayed at higher difficulty levels, and the hardest bounty is against Lord Saito himself.

Between runs you spend Mon, a currency earned while playing, to unlock new techniques, weapon upgrades, charms and characters. Any cosmetics you earn in Most Wanted also unlock in the main game, so the mode is worth playing even if you mainly care about Atsu's campaign look.

Most Wanted has four playable characters. Atsu is available from the start, and the others are unlocked as you play. Once all four are unlocked, you can choose any of them before a run. Each character has a different weapon set, an Ultimate ability and a Kill Streak ability.

Jin Sakai is the headline. He can use his katana with all four stances from Ghost of Tsushima, which lets you exploit enemy weaknesses the same way as in the first game, and he starts each run with a Sticky Bomb and a hankyu short bow.

You do not need the expansion to get the free update that releases on the same day. It adds features to the base game for everyone who owns it.

No. Ghost of Yotei: Legends is the online co-op mode for up to four players, with several modes that build up to a Raid. It launched on March 10, 2026 as a free update for every owner of the game, so you do not need to buy anything to play it. It is also included in the Complete Edition, which is why that edition lists it.

If you already own the game, the $14.99 upgrade is the only way to get the new story, the Ashoro Foothills region and Jin Sakai as a playable character. The pre-order bonus only matters until September 30, and the Sakai Armor is an early unlock, so you do not need to rush if you prefer to wait for reviews.

If you have not bought Ghost of Yotei yet, wait for October 1 and buy the Complete Edition. At $69.99 it costs the same as the original Standard Edition but includes the Digital Deluxe items and both expansions. Sony has not published the length of Echoes of Sekigahara, the download size or a trophy list for the expansion. Reviews are also not out yet. We will add these details, with sources, after launch instead of guessing.
